Description

DESIGN:
Our Villas celebrate the romance of living in the tropics. We wanted to follow the long tradition of open pavilions, which are the essence of building in this part of the world revealing a deep sensitivity to the climate and landscape. Our dynamic young architect used his own interpretations of this traditional design and worked closely with local trades people to allow his penchant for hedonistic spaces through luxurious open-air rooms to flourish.

"The ambient warmth of the tropics causes distinctions between indoors and out to evaporate, along with the walls that divide them."

No where demonstrates this better than the stunning first floor open plan living spaces which take advantage of the cool sea breeze to provide cross ventilation. These shady, breezy spaces in the treetops capture the magic of staying in the tropics.

The most seductive rooms have no doors or windows, they’re sumptuously furnished indoor-outdoor spaces, which allow you to interface with the heady tropical environment, a place to relax and escape with your subconscious thoughts.

As the late great Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa said “Life in the Tropics is about living out-of-doors”.

SETTING:
Set in an amazing tropical garden with freeform jungle swimming pool we have four sumptuous villas. We've designed exquisite houses in complete harmony with the landscape and cultural milieu giving you a gloriously romantic retreat. The architectural balance offers the sophisticated international traveller a place of privacy and nurture where you’ll regain a sense of balance.

Each of our villas have two large bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, some of which are out door for that magical experience of showering under the stars. All four houses have their own private jet pool set in a garden room and a complimentary car and driver. Each villa accommodates up to four guests.

LOCATION:
Sat just behind Coco Beach and away from the crowds the villa echoes to the soft chants of nature, where traditional village life goes on unspoilt. In a quite backwater with the villas set in whispering palms it will steal your heart and fire your imagination.

THE VILLA:

Colonnaded Garden Room -
The architect used his penchant for hedonistic spaces to create a luxurious open-air jet pool area. By day this tranquil space is a shady haven cooled by cross ventilation and by night an atmospheric cloistered space with artistically lit pillars, flickering candles and dappled reflected light on the walls.

Living / Dining Area -
Truly tropical living. Relax and enjoy the comfort of a fully furnished open air living pavilion at tree top level. A Sumptuous indoor-outdoor space interfacing with the heady tropical environment. Innocent of your presence watch natures creatures, tropical birds and butterflies, go about their lives as you gaze out onto the stunning pool and vibrant gardens.

Bedroom 1 -
This elegant first floor bedroom is also air-conditioned and has an enormous 6-foot wide double bed or twin beds on request. There is a flat screen TV with cable channels and DVD player. There is a sit out balcony on one side and a Juliet balcony on the other allowing cross ventilation. The dramatic high ceiling en suite bathroom completes the romantic ambience of this room.

Bedroom 2 -
Atmospheric air-conditioned double bedded room has 3 sets of French windows that open onto a totally private garden. There is a flat screen TV with cable channels, a DVD player and i-pod docking station. The bathroom is en suite with his and hers basins.

The Kitchen -
The kitchen although a separate room flows seamlessly outdoors onto a shady dining terrace and lounge area through two sets of double French doors.

The Pool and Gardens -
It’s the pleasure of tactile and sensorial experiences, which captivate the heart in the tropics. The need to touch, feel and respond to the oversized vibrant natural world which surrounds you, so the carefully crafted jungle style gardens and natural pool bring the indoor/outdoor living experience to life and complete the romantic ambiance.

In addition to the small private garden area immediately outside each villa you can also enjoy the luscious shared tropical gardens and swimming pool. The swimming pool is immediately outside your villa. This freeform jungle pool blends perfectly into its tropical surroundings with tempting cool emerald green water - it is as much a water feature of the garden as a recreational pool. It has a lap area with grand entrance ghats for the swimming enthusiast and shallow shelves for lounging on for the not so energetic.

FACILITIES:

Ayurvedic Spa -
For that added touch of indulgence why not spoil yourself each day with an Ayervedic treatment massage. In a quiet corner deep in the lush exotic garden is secreted a private therapy area where by appointment a therapist from Shatayu Ayurvedic Health Clinic can provide full ayurvedic treatments, a massage in the comfort of your own villa or a doctors consultation for a tailored detoxification or rejuvenation package.

Car & Driver -
Everyday you have the freedom to visit a different beach and in the evenings sample the many restaurants. Shopping is easy too - with the driver to help with where to go and what to buy. Enjoy a touch of luxury with your own personal driver (and let someone else cope with the confusing traffic and racetrack rules of the road).

SUSTAINABLE TOURISM:
We believe in sustainable low impact tourism through design. We want to enrich the local community and not impact on their environment, but without compromising the comfort levels expected by today’s sophisticated international traveller.

The coolest place in the evenings are nearest to the ground, so our architect put the bedrooms on the ground floor and used thick local laterite stone for insulating the cool air. He ensured all rooms had at least two floor to ceiling external doors for cross ventilation. We put most of the living space on the first floor and built it with the most minimal use of walls. These open sided living verandas harness the cool sea breeze to deliver cross ventilation. The building techniques minimise the need to use electricity to cool down and the unique living space created enhances the experience of staying in the tropics. The interior designer showed her commitment to sustainable design by sourcing colonial and Indian antique furniture and using only fittings of Indian origin with local trade’s people modifying them to meet our high standards where appropriate.

Goa needs tourists, with much of the population relying on the income they generate. To that end we do not provide any on site food or additional revenue raising services. We actively encourage you to go out and explore and spend your money in the real Goa. With it’s rich heritage, stunning scenery, owing to it’s rich bio diversity, friendly smiles and wonderful food you’ll find making the effort vastly rewarding. Even the ayurvedic services available in the privacy of your own villa, are outsourced to Shatayu Ayurvedic Health Clinic. Guests pay locally and we do not benefit in any way. All employees are from the village of Nerul bringing much needed employment.

Unfortunately tourism brings it’s own problems. The two biggest facing Goa’s coastal tourist belt are garbage, waste management and the extra burden tourists place on the water table at the end of the dry season.

We employ a three bin re-cycling system in each villa. It allows us to provide our own waste collection service. We distribute the divided waste and pay for it’s recycling.

To minimise our impact on the water table we have built in an area where the water table is high. We have filled the swimming pool during the monsoon and top this water up in the dry season by purchasing water from inland water sources where the table is very high. The private jet pools are on the swimming pool filtration system so they do not need emptying and re-filling between guests. In addition we use grey water from the pool back wash and soak pits to help water the gardens. We only have showers in the rooms instead of baths.

We contribute towards the local community by donating money or resource to local needs. This year we gave money towards the cost of building a new Hindu temple in the village and started contributing towards the wages of a street and beach cleaner for the local community.

India has given us and will give you so much emotional and spiritual joy it is only correct we should all give something back when it has so many social causes still in need of help.

At the end of every season we donate 5% of our net profit to charities doing vital work to help those in need that can’t keep up with India’s economic boom.
