Thoughts for the New Year

in Thoughts

Since my childhood this poem has been subtly present in my life.  Most recently, I found myself confronted by it when I spent time in the small unheated room in which it hung.  I’d be in there just long enough to read the poem and, after washing my hands, I left feeling lighter.

desiderata

Desiderata was rumored to have been ‘found’ on a leaflet from Old St. Paul’s Church, Baltimore, dated 1692.  It was in fact written by a poet and lawyer from Terre Haute, Indiana, who lived from 1872–1945.  The author, Max Ehrmann, said, “I should like, if I could, to leave a humble gift — a bit of prose that had caught up some noble moods.”

May these simple thoughts help us to be contented with our lot and more forgiving to others as the year unfolds.

Happy 2010 to you all and I hope this will be a good year for MyFriendsHotel.com.  The road is long and I thank you for you patience.
